About the foundation

Mission

The Canadian Foundation for Spiritual Care/ Fondation canadienne de soins spirituels (CFSC/FCSS) was created for the purpose of promoting the advancement of Spiritual Care and Education in Canada by fostering research and enhancing training and service possibilities.

Vision

The Foundation aims to support CASC/ACSS Members in their education and professional goals through bursaries and grant programs. ​​

Objectives

  • ​To fund charitable purposes of an educational nature and in particular, to provide scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, and financial assistance to students 
  • To provide equipment, furnishings, teaching aids and supplies to educational institutions, that align with the vision and mission of CASC/ACSS.
  • ​​To carry on educational programs in order to increase knowledge respecting teaching methods, teaching skills and teaching aids, through research, education and publication and distribution of books, papers, reports and periodicals,
  • To provide funds to charitable organizations which carry on such educational programs with and emphasis on those organizations which carry on spiritual care educational programs.

Disbursement of Funds

​ Summary of Disbursements and Grants
Over the last 25 years, the Canadian Foundation for Spiritual Care has:
  • provided bursaries for more than 95 students pursuing the spiritual care profession (15 in 2021);
  • awarded students more than $190,000 in grants and bursaries ($20,000 in 2021);
  • provided funding to more than 50 research projects;
  • strengthened the core competencies for CASC/ACSS Certified Professionals and;
  • developed new competencies for CASC/ACSS Certified Supervisor-Educators.​
