About Lori

Hook, line and sinker! Meaning - ‘without hesitation or reservation: completely!’ Well not really!  I could relate to Jonah.
I entered Seminary late in life with a personal commitment to a life-long call. I studied at Providence Theological Seminary in Otterburn, Manitoba and completed a Master’s of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling.  I had a relatively short career as a Spiritual Care Practitioner in Healthcare; Fred Douglas Lodge, Concordia Hospital, and Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg. A proud moment was when I was named a “Healthcare Hero” during COVID.   I retired from healthcare but continue to do some counseling.  As a Provincial Marriage Commissioner, I offer pre-marital counseling to couples and officiate at their ceremony; as a Grief Specialist I offer counseling to individuals and families at time of death and officiate as required; and I am a counselor at large when needed.
My greatest reward has been mother to my two children. Although adults now I will always feel I was blessed in this role and never take it for granted. I am married for a second time and feel I was granted a new lease on life with a wonderful man and human being. We will celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary this August.
I grew up on a farm in Southern Manitoba in the Red River Valley with my parents and seven siblings, six of them sisters. I had all the benefits of country life in a large family -- hand-me downs, working in the great outdoors, lots of wildlife and farm animals, learning skills you do not get in a classroom, and more.  I loved working along side my Dad in the field and in the barn and prefer physical labour. To this day I golf in the summer and curl in the winter, with books, live theatre, travel, home and garden projects to fill in the space between.
 Jonah gave into God’s plan for him, ‘hook, line and sinker,’ and I know I am ‘hooked’ as well.

About Sandy

I have been a member with CASC since 2008 and just started as BC foundation representative.
I work as a Spiritual Health Practitioner for Island Health in Comox and Campbell River hospitals.
Before my CPE residence, I finished a MDiv and MA at Ambrose seminary. I had done prior studies at Calvin seminary and a BA from University in Calgary in Religious Studies.
My journey in Spiritual Health Care has been full of turns and adventures! A mixture of experiences in hospice/palliative care, hospital, geriatrics and some forensics with lots of acute care mixed in! Originally trained in CPE in Calgary I have worked in both Alberta and BC .
I moved to B.C. in 2016 to work in Langley with a pilot project on a specialized geriatric interdisciplinary team to provide care for seniors in their homes and part-time in the hospital. I moved back to Calgary 2020 to work in a hospital for a year but missed B.C. too much, although it was great to catch up with old friends. I just missed the ocean and having mountains to the east! I still visit Vancouver and Calgary to see my grown children and young grandson. In my last move to BC in August 2021, I bypassed the Vancouver area and moved to Vancouver Island where I live in Campbell River. I enjoy beach walks, nature trails, and exploring the island often with my pug.

About Lorrie

​I am a student in the First Advanced Unit of the Vancouver Coastal Health Clinical Psychospiritual Education program. During CPE, I have enjoyed working as a Spiritual Care Intern in long-term care, with the Community Health teams, and in hospital wards.
I recently retired as a high school Chemistry and Calculus Teacher, a role I had for 20 years. I particularly enjoyed working with those students who found the courses challenging. It is a huge step to have a student change from “I don’t get it” to “I don’t get it yet” where they give themselves time and space to understand a new concept.  In 2019, my students nominated me as an Inspiring Teacher for a province-wide competition. After being chosen for this honour, Global News created a commercial about me for Teacher Week and interviewed us on the Morning News program.
Before teaching, I worked as an engineer at the Canadian Mars Bar factory and, before that, installing computer systems in pulp mills. I received the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada Scholarship which enabled me to obtain my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. I have had articles published in education and engineering journals.
On a personal level, I played ice hockey throughout my life. As an undergraduate, I was a member of the UBC Women’s Hockey team, winning the Western Canada competition. In 2016, I participated in the North America Masters Games where our team won the bronze medal for women’s hockey.

Becky Jones

About Becky

Becky is a client-centred spiritual care team intern who is ready to walk alongside individuals, providing a safe place to explore their lives in a safe and non-judgemental way.
Becky has a background in art therapy and has led many support groups for seniors and their families living with dementia. She has worked with children who are medically fragile, encouraging self expression. She has journeyed with kids in the school system that live with a wide variety of mental health challenges. Finally, she has worked within the long term care system providing therapeutic art interventions both in group settings as well as with individuals. Becky works to meet the individual where they are at as they navigate challenges such as grief, anxiety and depression. 

​When not working, you can find Becky painting, gardening or sewing. She enjoys all different ways of expressing her creativity. You can find Becky walking by the river with her dog, enjoying nature. She loves it when her grown children come to visit and also go on a walk with her - hopefully stopping ahead of time at the local coffee shop before the journey!
