Poem by Ciaran McKenna- Withering women in a gutted Africa

Withering women in a gutted Africa.

Gaunt, emaciated,

                                   Empty, yet bloated

Ravaged and raped,

                                   Wasted women.

Shrunken cheeks,

                                  Empty breasts,

Broken limbs.

                                  Broken promises.

Empty shells, Empty bellies,

Hope lies low in a

gutted Africa

Young, wasted women,

                                Shrunken children

Scream for the pure milk of life,

In a gutted Africa
